Ken Kuranchie Launches Book On Journalism Today

EDITOR-in-Chief of the Daily Searchlight, an Accra-based private newspaper, Mr Kenneth Agyei Kuranchie, will on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 launch a book at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, near the Ridge Round About in Accra.

The book titled: “Principles of Applied and Practical Journalism” was authored by Mr Agyei Kuranchie, a seasoned professional journalist.

A press statement signed by the Director of Swift Media Ventures of Publication, Mr Prince Kawuunda Mmco-Nbanga, and copied to Today yesterday, noted that journalism in Ghana has come a long way since the nation was a British colony, adding that “Over the period, it has produced several notable journalists.”

Initially journalism, the statement said, could be described as a vocation, practised by those interested in national affairs.

“Over the period, it has, however, developed into an academic programme, particularly after Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s First President, established the Ghana Institute of Journalism (G.I.J) in Accra,” it said.

According to the statement, “students and lecturers in courses that people believe lead to the creation of Journalists, would tell you that in Ghana, and much of Africa, we do not have a book that seeks to fill the void of a course called Journalism that teaches journalism directly as a course.”

Secondly, it said “even if a course called Journalism has been present, it has been taught from a purely academic perspective, without the touch of a practitioner.

“These are the voids sought to be filled by the book ‘PRINCIPLES OF APPLIED AND PRACTICAL JOURNALISM,’” the statement noted.

“For the above reasons, this book is a notable piece of work, produced by a Ghanaian, and needs to be celebrated.”

The Author of the book ‘PRINCIPLES OF APPLIED AND PRACTICAL JOURNALISM’ is Mr Agyei Kuranchie.

Over the past twenty-five years, Mr Agyei Kuranchie has been in the think of human rights and political activism, as well as journalistic practice in Ghana.

A controversial figure, he has taken on the high and mighty in this country in his belief of what he believes to be the right. In 2013, he was imprisoned for ten days by the Supreme Court of Ghana after he challenged the conduct of the court in its handling of the infamous Presidential Election Petition.

Unknown to many Ghanaians, Mr Agyei Kuranchie is also an author. In the year 2000, one of his books, ‘In Search of Vengeance,’ a work of fiction, was published by Asempa Publications here in Accra. It is currently widely sold in Ghana and across the world.

He is also the author of the beautiful children’s book titled the ‘Rabbit, The Lizard and the Sparrow.’

Though a secondary school drop-out, Mr Agyei Kuranchie managed to overcome that hurdle.

He currently has a degree in Sociology and Philosophy from the University of Ghana, as well as a Bachelor of Laws certificate awarded from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology through the Mountcrest College of Accra.

Mr. Kuranchie is also the owner of Ghana’s Swift Institute, the first institute dedicated solely to assisting individuals under practical and academic conditions to create wealth for themselves.

He is also a farmer and a newspaper publisher.

He is married to Lucy, and they have five children.
