NPP MPs Express Anger Over Wontumi Radio's Incendiary Comments
Several Members of Parliament from the Ashanti Region, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are expressing their frustration over the conduct of presenters on Wontumi Radio, a station owned by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi.
The MPs alleged that the actions of the radio presenters are undermining the party's reconciliation efforts in the region.
They are particularly concerned about the frequent insults directed at senior party members, including MPs, by the station's presenters.
Mr Eugene Boakye Antwi, the MP for Subin Constituency, voiced the MPs' concerns, highlighting their displeasure with the radio station's current behaviour
. He criticized the presenters for making provocative remarks about the party's leadership, especially when there is a disagreement with Chairman Wontumi.
Mr Antwi called on Chairman Wontumi to control his presenters, warning that he could be held accountable for their actions under vicarious liability.
He recalled an incident following the death of the late Deputy Minister for Finance, Dr. John Kumah, when a presenter on Wontumi Radio insulted party leaders during the morning show.
Furthermore, Mr. Antwi mentioned another instance where the same presenter allegedly threatened Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, against choosing a running mate from the Ashanti Region.
The NPP’s national leadership, including Chairman Stephen Ntim and General Secretary Justin Kodua, have unconcerned about such behaviours.
The former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing expressed his dissatisfaction with the Wontumi presenters during an interview on Okay FM on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, addressing the ongoing issues within the NPP in the Ashanti Region.
The MPs urge Chairman Wontumi to take immediate action to ensure that the radio station supports the party's unity and reconciliation efforts rather than fueling division with inflammatory rhetoric.
