Samini Blames Poor Urban Planning For Recurring Floods In Accra
Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artiste Samini has criticised authorities responsible for urban planning, accusing them of contributing to the persistent flooding problems in Accra through poor planning decisions.
His remarks come after heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across parts of the capital, leaving roads submerged, disrupting movement, and affecting many households.
Taking to X on June 8, 2026, the award-winning musician expressed frustration over the country's inability to resolve flooding challenges despite decades of self-governance and development.
He questioned why Ghana continues to experience severe floods every year even though it has managed its own town and country planning since gaining independence in 1957.
Samini suggested that officials who approved construction projects in waterways and flood-prone areas should be held accountable for the consequences.
"We have been in charge of town and country planning since 1957, yet we see floods every year. Who has been doing the planning, chale?" he wrote.
He further added: "The person who gave people permits to build homes in waterways is the one I'm looking for… mount asearch, chale. #AccraFloods #GhanaFloods. Pray for those affected."
