STMA Assembly Members Receive Parliamentary Orientation

Assembly Members from the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) have participated in an orientation session in Parliament aimed at deepening their understanding of how the legislative arm of government operates.

The session was hosted by Dr. Grace Ayensu-Daquah, the MP for Essikado-Ketan who engaged the delegation in discussions on parliamentary procedures, governance processes, and the relationship between Parliament and local government structures.

According to the Essikado-Ketan Communication Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the engagement was both interactive and impactful, offering participants practical insights into the workings of the legislative system.

The STMA, which serves as the local government authority for the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis in the Western Region, plays a key role in urban governance, including sanitation, basic healthcare, education, market management, roads, and local economic development.

As the “last mile” of governance, the Assembly is responsible for translating national policies into direct services for residents, making capacity-building engagements such as the parliamentary orientation crucial for effective service delivery.

The session forms part of broader efforts to strengthen collaboration between Parliament and local government institutions to improve governance outcomes at the grassroots level.
