Weija-Gbawe MP Visits Beneficiaries Of Free Eye Surgery Programme
The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe and Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare access in the constituency following a visit to residents who recently underwent free eye surgery under a community health intervention programme.
The MP visited beneficiaries at the SDA Valley View Hospital on Thursday, June 18, where 40 residents were being discharged after successfully undergoing surgical procedures a day earlier.
The surgeries were the culmination of a week-long eye screening exercise conducted across the Weija-Gbawe Constituency in March 2026. The outreach programme was organised through a partnership involving the Columbia Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists from the United States, the Ghana Adventist Health Services (GAHS), and medical specialists from Valley View Hospital.
The screening exercise identified hundreds of residents in need of specialized eye care and medical intervention.
According to organisers, a total of 221 beneficiaries were shortlisted for further treatment following the screenings.
Out of that number, 40 patients reported to Valley View Hospital on June 16 and subsequently underwent surgery on June 17.
During his visit, Mr. Shaib interacted with the beneficiaries, assessed their recovery progress, and expressed satisfaction with the success of the intervention.
He commended the medical professionals and partner organisations for their dedication and collaboration in delivering quality healthcare services to residents of the constituency.
The MP noted that the initiative forms part of his broader healthcare agenda aimed at improving health outcomes and ensuring that vulnerable residents have access to specialised medical services.
He pledged to continue forging strategic partnerships to address healthcare gaps and expand access to critical medical interventions within the constituency.
The programme was undertaken under the MP’s social intervention initiative, JASCARES, which focuses on improving the welfare and well-being of constituents through targeted community support programmes.
