NDC, J.J. Rawlings Foundation To Commemorate Rawlings’ Birthday With Legacy Events


The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in collaboration with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, will commemorate the birthday of the party’s founder and former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings, with a series of events scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2026.

The commemoration will be held under the theme, “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy,” and is expected to bring together party members, supporters, cadres, and members of the public to celebrate the life and contributions of the late statesman.

As part of the programme, the NDC will officially name its national headquarters after Flt. Lt. Rawlings and unveil a bust in his honour. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at 9:00 a.m. and will be addressed by President John Dramani Mahama, who is also the leader of the party, alongside other senior party officials.

Later in the day, a public lecture and exhibition will be held at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in Accra.

The keynote address will be delivered by renowned Ghanaian lawyer and academic, Tsatsu Tsikata.

The programme is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.

Other speakers expected to address the gathering include Akwasi Opong Fosu, former Minister for Local Government and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, as well as Kofi Totobi Quakyi.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC, Godwin Ako Gunn, the events are intended to honour the legacy of the former President and reflect on his contributions to Ghana’s democratic development and political history.
