SIC Insurance Launches Electric Vehicle Fleet To Drive Green Transition Agenda
SIC Insurance PLC has unveiled a fleet of Electric Vehicles (EVs) as part of its Green Transition Agenda, reinforcing the company's commitment to environmental sustainability and Ghana’s climate action goals.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Managing Director James Agyenim-Boateng described the initiative as a significant milestone in the company's journey towards sustainable business practices and responsible corporate citizenship.
According to him, the introduction of Electric Vehicles and supporting charging infrastructure demonstrates SIC Insurance’s determination to contribute to reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner transportation solutions in Ghana.
Mr. Agyenim-Boateng recalled that the company began its sustainability journey over a year ago with a pilot programme that introduced solar power systems at selected branches.
He noted that although the initiative started on a modest scale, it signaled the company's commitment to investing in practical solutions rather than merely discussing sustainability.
He revealed that the solar energy project has delivered encouraging results, with plans already underway to expand the initiative to major SIC branches across the country.
The Managing Director explained that the newly introduced Eectric Vehicles represent more than a shift in transportation.
Rather, they reflect a broader transformation in the company's approach to environmental responsibility and its vision for contributing to a sustainable future.
“As an insurance company whose business is centered on managing risk and protecting lives and property, we cannot ignore climate change, which remains one of the greatest risks facing communities, economies and the environment today,” he stated.
Mr. Agyenim-Boateng emphasized that the EV rollout marks the beginning of a broader sustainability agenda aimed at balancing profitability with environmental stewardship and social impact.
He commended the Board of Directors, management, staff, partners and stakeholders for their support in making the Green Transition Agenda a reality and encouraged other organisations to embrace sustainable practices that contribute to national development.
The SIC Insurance Managing Director expressed optimism that the company would continue to implement innovative green initiatives, positioning itself not only as a leader in the insurance industry but also as a champion of environmental sustainability.
