Energy Regulators From ECOWAS, France And Burundi Visit GRIDCo System Control Centre

A delegation of energy regulators from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), France, and Burundi have undertaken a familiarisation visit to the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) System Control Centre to gain firsthand insight into the country’s electricity transmission operations.

The visit brought together officials from the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority, the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), and the Authority for the Regulation of Water and Energy in Burundi as part of a broader regional exchange programme.

The tour was aimed at deepening the delegation’s understanding of GRIDCo’s operational systems and its critical role in managing Ghana’s national power transmission network.

The delegation was received at the control centre by GRIDCo’s Director of System Operations, Ing. Hussaini Adams, and Manager for Dispatch, Wofa Kwarteng, who provided a detailed briefing on the company’s real-time grid management and electricity dispatch operations.

Officials explained how GRIDCo monitors and balances electricity supply across the national grid to ensure stability, efficiency, and reliability in power delivery.

The visiting regulators also observed the operations of the System Control Centre (SCC), gaining practical exposure to the technologies and processes used in managing Ghana’s transmission infrastructure.

The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regional cooperation in the energy sector, promote knowledge sharing, and enhance regulatory collaboration among electricity market operators across Africa and Europe.

GRIDCo described the engagement as an important opportunity to showcase its operational capabilities and deepen institutional partnerships with key energy regulators.
