GRA To Donate Confiscated Food Consignments To School Feeding Programme
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced that 18 confiscated transit food consignments will be handed over to the Ghana School Feeding Programme to support the government's efforts to enhance food security and provide meals for schoolchildren.
The decision follows the interception of 18 trucks carrying 44,055 packages of undeclared food items, including cooking oil, tomato paste and spaghetti, during an overnight enforcement operation on the Dawhenya–Tema road in February this year.
According to the GRA, investigations by its Customs Division revealed that the consignments were accompanied by falsified trade documents, with their final destination falsely declared as Togo and Niger.
Speaking at a press briefing, Commissioner-General Anthony Kwasi Sarpong confirmed that the goods had been confiscated in accordance with the law and would now be transferred to the School Feeding Secretariat for distribution to beneficiary schools.
Mr. Sarpong also disclosed that four officers of the Ghana Revenue Authority found to have been complicit in the incident are currently facing disciplinary proceedings.
He reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to combating customs fraud, protecting state revenue, and ensuring accountability within its operations.
