Health Ministry Debunks False Ebola Outbreak Claims
The Ministry of Health has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that Ghana has recorded 2,300 Ebola cases and 930 related deaths, describing the publication as false and misleading.
In a statement, the Ministry said it had become aware of a social media post attributed to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) alleging a significant Ebola outbreak in Ghana.
The Ministry categorically denied the claims, stressing that Ghana has not recorded a single case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
It urged the public to disregard the figures being circulated, describing them as inaccurate and capable of creating unnecessary fear and panic.
The Ministry also clarified that the recent visit by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to points of entry, laboratories and treatment facilities formed part of routine public health preparedness activities aimed at strengthening Ghana's capacity to prevent and respond to potential disease outbreaks.
According to the Ministry, these inspections should not be interpreted as evidence of an Ebola outbreak in the country.
It further appealed to Ghanaians and the international community to rely only on verified information issued by the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service regarding public health matters.
The Ministry also cautioned the public against sharing unverified reports on social media, warning that the spread of false information could undermine public confidence and trigger unnecessary alarm.
The statement reaffirmed Ghana's commitment to maintaining a robust disease surveillance and emergency response system to safeguard public health while continuing routine preparedness measures against potential health threats.
