GRIDCo Begins Power Restoration After Nationwide System Disturbance


The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has commenced restoration efforts following a major power system disturbance that disrupted electricity supply across parts of the country in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29.

According to GRIDCo, the incident occurred at approximately 3:11 a.m. when a disturbance on the National Interconnected Transmission System triggered the simultaneous shutdown of some electricity generating plants, resulting in widespread power outages.

In a statement, the company said its engineers and system operators immediately activated established restoration procedures to restore electricity supply to affected areas.

GRIDCo said restoration efforts are being undertaken in close collaboration with key stakeholders in the power sector to ensure power is restored safely and within the shortest possible time.

"Our engineers and system operators are working continuously, in close collaboration with power sector stakeholders, to restore power within the shortest time possible without compromising safety," the statement said.

The transmission company also announced that a comprehensive technical investigation has been launched to establish the exact cause of the system disturbance.

GRIDCo apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the outage and thanked the public for their patience and understanding while restoration work continues.

The company assured consumers that it would provide further updates as more information becomes available.
