Energy Ministry, Ghana Armed Forces Strengthens Collaboration On Energy Security

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has held discussions with the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry and the military.

The engagement focused on identifying areas where the two institutions can work more closely to protect Ghana’s critical energy infrastructure and enhance the country’s preparedness to respond to potential threats to the energy sector.

Key areas discussed included the protection of critical energy facilities, emergency preparedness and coordinated responses to security threats that could disrupt energy supply and operations.

Dr Jinapor and Lieutenant General Agyapong also explored ways to improve institutional coordination in dealing with emergencies and other risks that could affect the stability and security of Ghana’s energy infrastructure.

The engagement forms part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between civilian authorities and the Ghana Armed Forces in safeguarding strategic national assets.

The Energy Ministry’s engagement with the military is expected to contribute to improved preparedness and a more coordinated response to potential incidents affecting the energy sector.

The meeting underscores the importance of energy security to national security and the need for strong collaboration among institutions responsible for protecting Ghana’s critical infrastructure.
