Speaker Recalls Parliament From Recess For Special Sitting
Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has recalled Members of Parliament (MPs) from recess for a special sitting to consider urgent parliamentary business.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Speaker directed MPs to return to Parliament from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28, 2026.
The House is scheduled to resume sitting at noon on Monday, August 24, at Parliament House in Accra.
Parliament had initially adjourned sine die on July 31, 2026, with MPs expected to remain on recess until October.
The recall has been made pursuant to Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which empowers the Speaker to summon the House to consider urgent business during recess.
During the five-day special sitting, Parliament is expected to consider a number of pressing matters, including ministerial nominations and nominations to the Supreme Court.
The House is also expected to consider proposed amendments relating to LGBTQ+ legislation, alongside several financial matters requiring parliamentary attention.
The special sitting comes less than three weeks after Parliament adjourned and is expected to provide the House with an opportunity to address matters deemed too urgent to wait until the next regular sitting.
