Obuasi Sec-Tech Students Apologise For Assault On Headmaster, Vandalism
The Student Representative Council (SRC) of Obuasi Senior High Technical School in the Ashanti Region has apologised to the school’s management and other stakeholders following an incident that resulted in the assault of the headmaster and vandalism of properties at the school.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, August 5, 2026, amid unrest involving students of the school.
In a letter addressed to the Municipal Director of Education in the Obuasi Municipality, the SRC, on behalf of the student body, expressed regret over the incident and acknowledged that the conduct of the students was unacceptable.
The students apologised to the headmaster and staff members for the physical and emotional distress caused, as well as to the Minister of Education, the school’s Board of Governors, the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament for Obuasi West, the Education Directorate, parents, past students and other stakeholders.
The SRC said students had reflected on the incident and recognised that disagreements or frustrations could not justify violent confrontation.
“We have soberly reflected on the incident and understand the importance of exercising self-control, respect for authority, and resolving disagreements through appropriate and peaceful channels,” the students said.
They also pledged to cooperate fully with school authorities and participate in appropriate measures aimed at demonstrating remorse and rebuilding confidence in the school.
The students expressed concern about the impact of the incident on the reputation of Obuasi Senior High Technical School and its old students’ Association, popularly known as Asikafo.
They appealed to stakeholders within the education sector to show forgiveness, patience and goodwill as they seek the reopening of the school.
The SRC also asked for guidance and prayers from stakeholders, assuring them of their commitment to preventing a recurrence of the incident.
The apology was signed by SRC President Bright Affum Baah, Vice President Abigail Tuffour Wilberforce and Secretary Alexander Nsafoah Boahen.
Copies of the letter were sent to the Minister of Education, the school’s Board of Governors and Headmaster, the Regional and Municipal Education Directorates, the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, the Obuasi West MP, the Old Students Association, religious bodies, the PTA, staff welfare and the Dean of the Obuasi Press Corps.
