Ghana Evacuates More Than 1,600 Nationals From South Africa
The Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has evacuated more than 1,600 Ghanaian nationals from South Africa since the start of an ongoing national evacuation exercise in May 2026.
The latest group, comprising 80 Ghanaian nationals, arrived in the country as the 11th batch under the second phase of the evacuation programme.
The evacuees were transported to Ghana through arrangements involving chartered and commercial flights as the government continues efforts to facilitate the safe return of Ghanaian nationals in South Africa.
According to the government, more than 1,600 Ghanaians have so far been brought home since the exercise began in May 2026.
The evacuation forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to assist Ghanaian nationals in South Africa and ensure their safe return to the country.
Authorities say the second phase of the exercise is continuing, with further evacuations expected as arrangements are made for additional Ghanaian nationals to return home.
