Police Arrest Ayitey Powers Over Alleged Death Threat Against NSA Boss
The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, over an alleged death threat against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
Ayitey Powers, 46, was arrested on Monday, August 24, 2026, following the circulation of a video on social media in which he is alleged to have issued the threat against the NSA Director-General.
The police said the former boxer is currently in custody and assisting with investigations into the matter.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the Accra Regional Police Command, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the Command said it took action after becoming aware of the video circulating on social media.
The police did not provide further details about the alleged threat but said investigations into the matter were ongoing.
Ayitey Powers is a former professional boxer who competed in the light-heavyweight division and was a prominent figure in Ghanaian boxing.
The police are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged remarks as investigations continue.
