Three Dead, 15 Injured After Mob Attack In New Winneba


Three people have been confirmed dead and about 15 others injured following a violent attack by an irate mob in the New Winneba Township in the Central Region.

According to the Central Regional Police Command, the incident occurred at about 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, when a group of about 300 people from Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze and Gomoa Pomadze allegedly stormed New Winneba Township.

The police said the mob, some of whom were wielding guns, stones, cutlasses and sticks, attacked residents and damaged shops, homes and other properties belonging to natives.

About 15 injured victims have so far been conveyed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for medical attention.
A police officer is also among those receiving treatment.

The Police said three persons have been confirmed dead in connection with the incident.

Following the outbreak of violence, personnel from the Winneba Divisional Headquarters and Agona Swedru District Patrols were deployed to the area to restore calm and protect lives and property.

The Inspector-General of Police has also directed the deployment of additional personnel from the National Police Headquarters, including two armoured vehicles, to reinforce security operations in the affected area.

The Police said the situation is currently under control and urged residents to remain calm as security personnel continue to monitor the area.

The Central Regional Police Command said further details on the incident would be communicated as investigations and security operations continue.
