GA/R: Achimota-Ofankor Highway Streetlights Fixed After Years Of Complaints

The long-standing problem of non-functioning streetlights along the Achimota-Ofankor highway in the Greater Accra Region(GAR) has finally been addressed, following several years of complaints from motorists and residents.

The streetlights along the busy stretch have reportedly been fixed, bringing relief to road users who have repeatedly raised concerns about poor visibility and safety, particularly at night.

The busy stretch that leads commuters to the Eastern, Ashanti regions and neigbouring Burkina Faso, among others have over the years experienced stark darkness leading to unwarranted accidents and loss of properties.

The development has been welcomed by residents and road users, with appreciation extended to the relevant authorities as well as the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council for responding to the concerns and taking steps to restore lighting along the highway.

However, attention is now being drawn to another pressing concern on the stretch — the growing levels of filth along the highway.

Residents and road users who engaged with Overseeronline.com are therefore appealing to the authorities to extend the intervention to sanitation by clearing the accumulated waste and improving cleanliness along the Achimota-Ofankor corridor.

They say fixing the streetlights is a welcome step, but keeping the highway clean will further improve the safety, appearance and overall environment of the busy road.
