Finance Minister Begin Engagements On Gov't’s ‘new Economy’ Agenda
The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has begun engagements with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry as part of efforts to advance the government’s new economic agenda.
The engagement forms part of government’s broader strategy to move beyond economic stabilisation and focus on transformational policies aimed at creating jobs, expanding productive sectors and improving living standards.
Dr Forson said economic stabilisation should not be regarded as the ultimate destination but rather a necessary foundation for the next phase of Ghana’s development.
“Stabilisation was never the destination. It was the price of entry. Ghana has paid that price,” he said.
According to the Finance Minister, the focus must now shift towards implementing transformative measures capable of delivering broad-based economic opportunities and improving the lives of Ghanaians at scale.
The engagement with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry is expected to strengthen coordination between the two ministries as government pursues its economic transformation agenda, with emphasis on trade, agribusiness, industrial development and job creation.
Dr Forson stressed that the next phase of Ghana’s economic programme would be centred on transformation and ensuring that the gains from stabilisation translate into tangible improvements for citizens.
