Sammy Gyamfi Move To Have Afenyo-Markin Defamation Suit Struck Out
Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has taken legal steps to have a defamation suit filed against him by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin struck out by the High Court.
According to sources, lawyers for Mr Gyamfi have filed an application at the High Court seeking to strike out the case instituted by the Member of Parliament for Effutu.
The legal team is arguing that the suit, as presented by the Minority Leader, is fundamentally defective and cannot be sustained in its current form.
The development follows Mr Gyamfi’s earlier decision to formally instruct his lawyers to accept service of the court documents on his behalf.
In a notice submitted to the Registrar of the High Court, General Division, in Accra, Mr Gyamfi authorised Ayine & Partners to receive the writ of summons and other originating processes relating to the case.
The notice, dated August 26, 2026, was titled, “Notice to Accept Service of Writ on Behalf of the 1st Defendant in Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Anor.”
It was signed by Seth Nyaaba, a solicitor with Ayine & Partners, who indicated that the firm had received clear instructions from Mr Gyamfi to accept service of the originating processes in the matter.
Mr Afenyo-Markin announced the legal action during Parliament’s emergency sitting on August 24, 2026.
The Minority Leader said he had initiated separate legal proceedings against Mr Gyamfi and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei.
The suits reportedly relate to comments allegedly made by the two officials concerning the Minority Leader, including descriptions of him as an “extortionist.”
With Mr Gyamfi now challenging the competence of the case, the High Court will have to determine whether the defamation action meets the legal requirements to proceed in its current form.
