Free Primary Healthcare Programme To Begin Today In 135 Districts
The government’s Free Primary Healthcare programme is set to officially commence today, Monday, September 7, 2026, in 135 districts across Ghana.
The initiative is aimed at improving access to essential healthcare services and reducing financial barriers for Ghanaians, particularly at the primary healthcare level.
The rollout in the 135 districts marks a major step in the government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s primary healthcare system and ensure that more people can access basic health services without direct financial hardship.
According to the Ministry of Health, the programme is expected to focus on bringing healthcare closer to communities while strengthening preventive and early-intervention services.
Health facilities and relevant stakeholders in the selected districts are expected to begin implementing the initiative from Monday as the government works towards expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare nationwide.
The Minister for Kwabena Mintah Akandoh will announce the rollout of the prorgamme today at the Ministry.
The rollout of the programme is also expected to contribute to the government’s broader efforts to improve healthcare outcomes and promote equitable access to health services across the country.
