V/R: Ho Assembly Rejects Reported GH¢5 Tricycle Fare Increase
The Ho Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region has rejected reports of an increase in tricycle, popularly known as “Can Do,” fares from GH¢3 to GH¢5 within the municipality.
The reported fare increase was said to have taken effect on Monday, September 7, 2026.
In a press release issued on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Stephen Adom, the Assembly said it had neither approved nor endorsed the reported adjustment.
The MCE described the increase as unacceptable, particularly because, according to the Assembly, no consultation or approval had been obtained from the relevant authorities to justify the change.
The Assembly said it was engaging representatives of tricycle operators and other relevant stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported fare increase and work towards an amicable resolution.
In the meantime, the Assembly has directed commuters not to pay the reported GH¢5 fare.
Passengers have been urged to continue paying the existing GH¢3 fare pending any officially approved adjustment that may be communicated by the appropriate authorities.
The MCE also appealed to tricycle operators to refrain from imposing the increased fare and exercise restraint while consultations are ongoing.
The Assembly warned that unilateral fare increases could create unnecessary tension and impose additional hardship on commuters.
It reiterated its commitment to maintaining a fair and orderly transport system that balances the legitimate concerns of transport operators with the welfare and interests of residents.
The Assembly said it would provide further updates after concluding its engagements with the relevant stakeholders.
