Energy Minister Engages Vice Chancellors On Renewable Energy Expansion In Public Universities
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Jinapor, has engaged Vice Chancellors of Ghanaian universities to explore stronger collaboration between industry and academia in support of the country’s energy transition and broader economic transformation.
The engagement focused on the critical role of research, innovation and knowledge exchange in advancing Ghana’s transition towards a greener and more sustainable energy future.
A major area of discussion was the government’s commitment to expanding the use of renewable energy across public universities as part of efforts to promote clean energy and reduce reliance on conventional power sources.
Dr Jinapor said the government intends to provide solar power systems for academic facilities across public universities, enabling them to meet their electricity needs through renewable energy.
The initiative will also be complemented by the installation of all-in-one solar-powered streetlights across university campuses to improve energy efficiency and support sustainable campus infrastructure.
The Energy Minister emphasised that universities have an important role to play in Ghana’s energy transformation through research, innovation and the development of knowledge and skills needed to support the green transition.
He assured the academic community that the government would continue to create an enabling environment for universities to contribute meaningfully to the country’s energy future.
