Violence Erupts At Akyem Kade Cemetery During Burial Of 16-year-old
A burial ceremony at the Sakora Park Cemetery in Akyem Kade in the Eastern Region was disrupted by a violent confrontation on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The incident occurred during the burial of 16-year-old Kwaku Nti Augustine after a disagreement reportedly broke out among mourners over the positioning of the deceased’s body inside the casket.
According to information gathered by Osofoba Enoch, some mourners believed the deceased’s head had been wrongly positioned and called for the casket to be opened to correct it.
However, others reportedly objected, insisting that the family of the deceased should be present before the casket was opened.
The disagreement subsequently escalated into a physical confrontation, with cutlasses allegedly brandished during the melee.
Several people reportedly sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention.
The confrontation temporarily disrupted the burial service and caused panic at the cemetery, with some mourners fleeing the scene for their safety.
Residents have meanwhile appealed for calm and urged families, mourners and organisers of burial ceremonies to exercise restraint and ensure proper coordination during such sensitive occasions to prevent similar incidents.
The police are yet to comment on the incident.
