KNUST, GMTF Explore AI Partnership To Transform Healthcare Delivery
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has initiated discussions with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and science-driven solutions to improve healthcare delivery in Ghana.
A KNUST delegation, led by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. David Asamoah paid a working visit to the GMTF on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor to explore the possibility of this collaboration between the two institutions.
The discussions focused on how AI and other scientific innovations could be applied to address challenges in the health sector, improve efficiency, and support better outcomes for patients.
Prof. Asamoah said KNUST was interested in working with the GMTF to translate scientific research and technological innovation into practical solutions that could benefit the health sector.
As part of the proposed collaboration, KNUST is seeking the support of GMTF to make some of its health facilities and centres available for a pilot programme to test the application of AI-driven solutions in healthcare delivery
The pilot could provide an opportunity to assess how AI can support healthcare professionals, improve service delivery and generate data-driven insights for decision-making.
The two institutions also explored the possibility of deploying AI systems to support the internal operations of the Trust Fund, including areas where technology could improve efficiency, data management, monitoring and coordination of its interventions.
The engagement forms part of broader efforts by the GMTF to build strategic partnerships with academic, scientific and professional institutions to strengthen specialised healthcare delivery and maximise the impact of its interventions.
The proposed KNUST-GMTF collaboration is expected to create a platform for linking research, technology and healthcare practice, with the ultimate objective of developing innovative solutions that can be scaled across the health sector.
