PRINPAG Pledges Support For GJA Ahead Of 6th FAJ Continental Congress
The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has congratulated the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on winning the bid to host the 6th Continental Congress of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) in Accra.
PRINPAG described the development as a significant achievement for Ghana’s media fraternity and a recognition of the GJA’s standing within the Pan-African journalists’ movement.
In a statement signed by its President, David Tamakloe, PRINPAG commended the solidarity and collaboration among media organisations in Ghana, citing the recent hosting of the FAJ Steering Committee meeting as an example.
The Association noted that the meeting was organised through collaboration between the GJA and corporate partners, including the KGL Group.
PRINPAG said such cooperation was particularly important as Ghana’s media industry continues to face shared challenges, including growing economic pressures.
The Association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the GJA and other media organisations in promoting the interests of journalism in Ghana.
It pledged that its members would provide the expertise and goodwill required to ensure the successful hosting of the 6th FAJ Continental Congress and help Ghana deliver what it described as a memorable gathering for African journalists.
PRINPAG also commended the government for what it described as continued support for the media and efforts to maintain an environment conducive to press freedom.
The Association specifically referenced assurances by the Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, that journalists would not be harassed or intimidated.
It also cited President John Dramani Mahama’s engagement with the FAJ leadership on issues concerning media freedom and the safety of journalists.
As preparations begin for the continental event, PRINPAG called on stakeholders in the media industry, government and development partners to support the hosting of the congress.
The Association said a collective effort would be necessary to ensure the success of the event and further enhance Ghana’s role in the African journalism community.
