Sam George Reiterates Call For Black Stars To Be Disbanded
Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has reiterated his call for the Black Stars to be disbanded and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) overhauled.
The Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament restated his position in a post on X on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, following Ghana’s 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Mr George said his position on the national team had not changed, arguing that Ghana should take a break from international football to rebuild the team and its football structures.
“As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team.
Sack the FA.
Let FIFA ban us for 2 years.
Take the time to properly rebuild the team.
Truth hurts but the patch work is worse. Cheers,” he wrote.
The comments followed the Black Stars’ second consecutive defeat in the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
Ghana surrendered a two-goal lead against The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium before losing 4-2.
The result came days after the Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening Group C qualifier, leaving Ghana without a point from the opening two matches.
Mr George’s latest comments are a reiteration of a position he has previously expressed regarding the need for a major restructuring of Ghana’s senior national team.
The GFA, meanwhile, recently renewed Carlos Queiroz’s mandate as head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
The Association said the decision followed consultations with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and was intended to provide continuity for the team.
The Black Stars’ poor start to the qualifiers has renewed public debate over the administration and future direction of Ghana football.
