N/R: Police Arrest Three Suspected Kidnappers Over Yendi Abduction
The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, also known as Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.
The suspects have been identified as 32-year-old Mahumudu Abdulai, 32-year-old Ganiu Sumaila and 28-year-old Abdulai Salam.
According to the Police, the three were arrested at different locations in Sang in the Mion District on September 29, 2026.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was allegedly abducted on September 25 by four armed men who attacked him and his brother at their residence.
The suspects are said to have subsequently contacted the victim's family and demanded GH¢100,000 in exchange for his release.
The victim, however, managed to escape from his captors and was assisted by some farmers to a clinic at Sambu, where he received medical attention.
Police officers who proceeded to the facility engaged the victim, who reportedly told investigators that he had been taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men before escaping.
The victim later identified the three arrested suspects from photographs shown to him by the Police.
Further investigations, according to the Police, have also linked the suspects to other robbery incidents reported in the area.
The three suspects remain in Police custody and are assisting with investigations.
The Northern Regional Police Command says efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnapping.
