Mahama Hails IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno
President John Dramani Mahama has opened an 85-bed ward complex at the Ghana Police Hospital to improve healthcare delivery for police personnel, their families and the general public.
The facility was opened on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve the welfare of officers who face physical and psychological demands in the line of duty.
During the ceremony, President Mahama commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Ghana Police Service for improvements in safety and security, as well as crime investigations across the country.
He said the new ward complex reflected the importance of investing in the welfare of police personnel and ensuring that officers injured during operations received timely and quality medical attention.
The President urged the hospital’s management and staff to uphold high standards of hygiene, patient safety and professionalism while ensuring that the facility and its equipment were properly maintained.
As part of efforts to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery, President Mahama announced the donation of two new ambulances to the Police Hospital.
He also assured the Ghana Police Service of plans to provide an additional armoured vehicle and expand facilities at the hospital to improve healthcare services.
The IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, welcomed the opening, describing the new facility as a significant step towards improving access to healthcare for police personnel, their families and members of the public.
He said the expanded capacity of the hospital would help reduce the need to transfer patients to other health facilities and improve access to specialised medical care.
Mr Yohuno reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to maintaining the new ward complex and ensuring that it provided quality healthcare to all patients.
The opening forms part of broader efforts to improve police welfare and strengthen the Ghana Police Service’s capacity to deliver its mandate.
The new ward, together with the additional ambulances and planned infrastructure expansion, is expected to support improved patient care and emergency response at the Police Hospital.
