Nasia Star Rice CEO Calls For Stronger Support For Local Rice Industry

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Tamanaa Company Limited, producers of Nasia Star Rice, Alhaji Shaibu Braimah, has called for stronger government support for Ghana’s local rice industry to improve market access and boost the consumption of locally produced rice.

He has proposed stronger partnerships between rice farmers and processors, improved access to markets for locally processed rice, and increased use of Ghanaian rice in public institutions.

Alhaji Braimah made the proposals during a visit by a delegation from the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), led by the Head of the Investment Promotion and Business Development Division, Kwame Kesse-Agyepong.

The visit formed part of preparations for the North East Regional Investment Roadshow, aimed at identifying and promoting investment opportunities in the region.

During the engagement, Alhaji Braimah emphasised the need for consistent implementation of policies designed to support local rice production and strengthen the domestic rice value chain.

He said improved coordination between farmers and processors, coupled with deliberate measures to create demand for locally produced rice, would help unlock the industry's potential.

The delegation also toured Tamanaa Company's rice processing facility at Nasia, which has the capacity to process up to 10 tonnes of rice per hour and dry 33 tonnes.

The facility highlights the growing potential of agro-processing to support agricultural development, value addition and employment in the North East Region.

Mr Kesse-Agyepong commended the company for its investment in rice processing and assured management that the concerns raised would be communicated to the relevant government stakeholders.

The engagement forms part of GIPA's efforts to identify and promote regional investment opportunities ahead of the Invest Ghana Summit, scheduled for November 16–17, 2026.

The summit is expected to showcase Ghana's investment potential and highlight opportunities for sustainable economic growth across various sectors.
