80 Patients Benefit From New Cardio Cathlab Since July Opening

The Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Dr Kow Entsua-Mensah, has disclosed that approximately 80 patients have benefited from the facility’s new Cardio Catheterisation Laboratory (Cathlab) since it was opening in July 2026.

The facility is expected to strengthen the centre’s capacity to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions, improving access to specialised cardiac care.

However, Dr Entsua-Mensah has identified a shortage of adequately trained personnel as a major challenge to the optimal utilisation of the new facility.

He has therefore called for additional capacity-building interventions to equip more health professionals with the specialised skills required to operate the equipment and provide the necessary services to patients.

According to him, expanding the pool of trained personnel would enable the centre to make better use of the facility and extend its benefits to more people requiring cardiac care.

The development highlights the importance of complementing investments in modern medical equipment with specialised training and human resource development to improve healthcare delivery.

The National Cardiothoracic Centre plays a key role in providing specialised treatment for cardiovascular and other cardiothoracic conditions in Ghana.
