Samuel Nartey George Praises GoldBod For IT Procurement Compliance

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has praised the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) for its compliance with government regulations on information technology (IT) procurement, describing the institution as a “gold standard” for other public agencies.

The Minister made the remarks during a working visit to GoldBod, where he commended the Board for proactively seeking technical clearance from the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) before the presidential directive on IT procurement compliance.

He urged other public institutions to follow GoldBod’s example by adhering to the required procedures for technology-related procurement.

Mr George also reaffirmed his Ministry’s commitment to supporting GoldBod’s digital transformation agenda, particularly in cybersecurity, data protection and the development of digital systems to improve its operations.

GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s technical support, especially its assistance in developing the Board’s online licensing application system.

According to Mr Gyamfi, the digital platform has reduced human involvement in the licensing process, helping to streamline operations.

He further disclosed that GoldBod was nearing the award of a contract for its proposed gold traceability system, which is expected to support the tracking of gold through the supply chain.

Mr Gyamfi also announced plans to introduce an Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining Formalisation and Financing Support Programme in January 2027.

The programme will use technology to support responsible mining practices, monitor equipment and financial assistance provided to miners, and promote compliance with environmental requirements.

The initiative is expected to form part of GoldBod’s efforts to strengthen oversight of the small-scale mining sector while encouraging more responsible and transparent operations.

The visit highlighted the importance of collaboration between GoldBod and the Ministry in advancing digital innovation, strengthening regulatory compliance and improving accountability in the gold sector.
