Jinapor Calls For Stronger Regional Electricity Trade At ECOWAS Energy Meeting
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has called on ECOWAS member states to strengthen regional electricity trade to improve energy security and support economic growth across West Africa.
Dr Jinapor made the call while delivering the opening remarks at the 16th Meeting of ECOWAS Ministers in Charge of Energy.
He emphasised the importance of ensuring energy security, affordability, accessibility and sustainability, describing these priorities as essential to advancing regional integration and promoting sustainable development across the sub-region.
The minister urged his counterparts to encourage greater electricity trading among member states, stressing the need for stronger regional cooperation to make better use of available energy resources.
According to him, increased cross-border electricity trade could contribute to a more integrated regional energy market while helping countries address their energy needs through cooperation.
Dr Jinapor maintained that energy security should remain a shared priority for ECOWAS countries, given its importance to economic activity, development and regional prosperity.
He concluded by emphasising that a more energy-secure West Africa would be better positioned to achieve stronger integration and sustainable economic growth.
