GMTF Interventions Raise Hope For Specialised Healthcare In Northern Region

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) is working to improve access to specialised healthcare in the Northern Region through investments in cardiac care, diagnostic services, medical equipment and specialist training.

The interventions were discussed during an engagement between the Trust Fund and medical specialists in Tamale, where participants highlighted the challenges families face in accessing specialised treatment.

For many residents in Northern Ghana, obtaining specialist healthcare often involves travelling long distances and facing concerns over the cost of treatment.
The Trust Fund’s investments are expected to help address some of these barriers and bring quality healthcare closer to patients.

During the engagement, medical specialists welcomed the Fund’s support for cardiac care, diagnostic services, medical equipment and specialist training.

They also identified areas where further assistance would be needed to strengthen healthcare delivery in the region.

The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, thanked the specialists for their dedication and commitment to patient care.

The engagement forms part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Trust Fund and healthcare professionals to improve access to specialised medical services.

The Fund’s interventions seek to help more Ghanaians access life-saving treatment without suffering financial hardship, while supporting improved healthcare delivery beyond major urban centres.
