NHIA Urges District Managers To Intensify Public Education On Co-payment
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has urged District Managers and Public Relations Officers (PROs) in the Ashanti and Western North regions to step up public education on co-payment under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Co-payment refers to the practice of requiring NHIS members to pay additional fees for healthcare services already covered by the Scheme.
The call was made by the Head of Corporate Communications at the NHIA, Ms Faustina Dery, during a two-day training programme held at the Menish Hotel in Ejisu on October 26 and 27, 2026.
Delivering the welcome address, Ms Dery stressed that effective communication was essential to addressing co-payment, explaining that members who understood their NHIS benefits would be better equipped to question charges for services covered by the Scheme.
She encouraged participants to communicate in simple, clear language that the public could easily understand.
Ms Dery also urged them to tell the NHIA’s story honestly and professionally, free from political influence, while highlighting the positive impact of the Scheme on the lives of Ghanaians.
The Ashanti Regional Director of the NHIA, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Muntaka, reminded participants that District Managers and PROs were often the first point of contact between the Authority and the public.
He said their conduct and communication played a significant role in shaping public confidence in the National Health Insurance Scheme.
He therefore urged participants to take the training seriously and apply the knowledge and skills acquired to improve communication and public engagement in their respective districts.
Held under the theme “Strategic Communication and Media Relations,” the programme covered public speaking, media engagement, stakeholder relations and news writing.
Participants also received practical training in audience-focused communication, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to create social media content, and photography to improve the documentation and reporting of NHIA activities.
The programme further provided an opportunity for participants to discuss communication challenges encountered in their districts and explore practical ways of addressing them.
The training was facilitated by 3E Quantum Partners Ghana Limited, a firm specialising in human capacity development, corporate training and institutional capacity building.
