Ghana, China Explore Stronger Partnership In Road Infrastructure Development
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and China, with a focus on expanding cooperation in road infrastructure development.
He made the remarks when a joint delegation from the Jiangxi Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (Jiangxi Provincial SASAC) and China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Company Limited (CJIC) paid a courtesy call on him to discuss existing relations and explore prospects for future partnerships with the Ministry.
Mr Agbodza emphasised the importance of maintaining a mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries, noting that Chinese companies were already playing a significant role in Ghana’s road infrastructure programme.
“President Mahama has arguably made the largest scale of infrastructure investment within the road sector under the Big Push Programme, and Chinese companies are participating significantly.
The relationship between Ghana and China is very important to us, and we promise to do what we can to sustain it,” he said.
The Minister noted that partnerships with international institutions and development partners remained essential to mobilising investment, technical expertise and other resources needed to support Ghana’s road infrastructure priorities.
The delegation was led by Mr. Xiao Yun, Director-General of Jiangxi Provincial SASAC, and included Mr. Xu Zhenghua, Vice President of CJIC.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss the existing cooperation between Ghana and China and identify areas where further collaboration could support the country’s road infrastructure development agenda.
