NAiMOS Seeks Public Support To Combat Illegal Mining
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAiMOS) has launched a new initiative to strengthen cooperation with residents in areas affected by galamsey.
In a statement dated Thursday, October 29, the secretariat said the initiative seeks to build public trust, address concerns in affected areas and encourage residents to share intelligence that could help combat the menace.
Traditional leaders, local government officials, opinion leaders and other stakeholders in selected locations are expected to participate in the exercise.
NAiMOS explained that the initiative would complement existing field operations as part of a broader strategy adopted by the sector minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for a comprehensive response to illegal mining.
The programme is being led by the secretariat’s Director of Operations, Colonel K. S. Appiah, and his team, working alongside traditional authorities and opinion leaders.
The secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing mining regulations while strengthening cooperation with local institutions to support a coordinated and sustained national response to galamsey.
